Yale University, an Ivy League institution in New Haven, Connecticut, accepted 728 Early Action applicants to the Class of 2029. These were the first applicants to apply under Yale’s new “test-flexible” policy which requires at least one ACT, SAT, AP, or IB set of test scores.
YALE ACCEPTANCE RATE: EARLY TRENDS
Of the 6,729 early action applicants, 10.8% were admitted while 17% were deferred until the regular decision round, according to the Yale Daily News.
The Class of 2029 saw a 14% decrease in early applications, likely due to the implementation of the new testing policy.
Last year, Yale admitted 9.02% of early applicants, the lowest early admit rate in recent history. The regular decision acceptance rate for the Class of 2028 was a staggeringly low 2.75%.

Expert one-on-one guidance to boost your score.
TTA TOP TIP: Yale’s new “test-flexible” policy offers the option of applying with AP or IB scores rather than SAT or ACT scores. Students with many strong AP or IB subject test scores will face less pressure to score a high SAT/ACT. However, this means students should think carefully about these scores in context with the rest of your application so you can put your best foot forward and gauge which score(s) to report.
