Yale University, an Ivy League institution in New Haven, Connecticut, has an undergraduate enrollment of around 6,600 students who enjoy a student to faculty ratio of 6:1.
YALE ACCEPTANCE RATE
Yale admitted 2,308 applicants from a pool of 50,227 to the Class of 2029 resulting in a 4.59% overall acceptance rate. An additional 943 students (1.87% of all applicants) were offered a spot on the waitlist, according to the Yale Daily News.
Yale’s early acceptance rate was 10.82% and its regular acceptance rate was 3.65%.
After four years of test-optional policies, Yale’s Class of 2029 was the first to apply under the new “test-flexible” policy, which requires either SAT, ACT, IB or AP scores. Early applications declined 14% and international applications decreased by 26% compared to last cycle.
The college announced in February that it would be increasing its class size by 100 students starting with the Class of 2029.
The Class of 2029 is the second class to be admitted following the Supreme Court’s 2023 ruling banning affirmative action. In the Class of 2028, Black and Latino/a enrollment remained stable while the percentage of Asian American students fell slightly.

TTA TOP TIP: Yale’s new “test-flexible” policy allows applicants to submit AP or IB scores instead of the SAT or ACT. This can ease the pressure for students who have strong subject test scores in AP or IB exams. However, it’s important to consider how these scores fit within the broader context of your application (because applicants choosing this route must submit ALL AP/IB scores) so you can decide which test will best represent your strengths.
