Michigan maintained their “test-flexible” policy for the Class of 2028. 52% of applicants submitted SAT scores while 18% submitted ACT scores. The university’s supplemental essays have not changed for the 2024-2025 application cycle and both questions are required for all applicants.

TTA Top Tip: When responding to these essay prompts, consider how you’ll contribute to the University of Michigan campus community (and, in turn, how it will support you). It’s important to highlight experiences that have shaped you such as clubs, sports, study abroad experiences, debates, performing or visual arts, alumni connections, community service, leadership roles, entrepreneurial ventures, or any other impactful activities.

UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN: SUPPLEMENTAL ESSAYS

Everyone belongs to many different communities and/or groups defined by (among other things) shared geography, religion, ethnicity, income, cuisine, interest, race, ideology, or intellectual heritage. Choose one of the communities to which you belong, and describe that community and your place within it. (Required for all applicants, minimum 100 words/maximum 300 words)
Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate College or School (including preferred admission and dual degree programs) to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests? (Required for all applicants, minimum 100 words/maximum 550 words)
