Tulane: Supplemental Essays 2024-2025

Tulane University, located in New Orleans, Louisiana, is often considered a “Southern Ivy.” After receiving over 30,000 applications for the Class of 2028, Tulane announced an overall acceptance rate of around 13%. The admitted class had an average SAT score of 1490 and an average ACT score of 33. Last year, 40% of enrolled students did submit test scores. Tulane will be test-optional again for Fall 2025 admission.

Tulane’s supplemental essay prompt remains unchanged from the 2023-2024 admissions cycle. It’s a variation of the classic “Why Us?” admissions essay.

TTA Top Tip: While Tulane’s supplemental essay prompt is technically optional, it is strongly recommended and a critical piece of a strong application. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to set yourself apart from other applicants by highlighting your unique perspective and goals and how you’re a match for Tulane’s specific programs and community. Remember to be yourself and don’t cater your response to what you think the admissions committee wants to hear. Answer honestly and authentically.

Optional (recommended): Describe why you are interested in joining the Tulane community. Consider your experiences, talents, and values to illustrate what you would contribute to the Tulane community if admitted.

This statement should be 250 words at most; however, it is neither necessary nor expected that you reach this maximum length. We strongly encourage you to focus on content and efficiency rather than word count. While submitting this prompt is optional, we recommend that all applicants do so.
