STEM SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
- Research Science Institute (RSI): One of the nation’s top, free summer research programs. 100 rising seniors pursue individual projects under accomplished mentors. Highly valued by college admissions. Application deadline: December.
- Boston University’s RISE (Research in Science & Engineering) Internship / Practicum: Highly-competitive research internship/practicum. Rising seniors conduct lab research with BU faculty for six weeks in a structured lab setting. Great for connections and mentorship. Application deadline: February.
- MIT MITES Summer: Free, six-week program covering a range of STEM topics and focusing on real-world applications. Immerses students in life at MIT and provides exposure to a variety of STEM career paths. Application deadline: February.

HUMANITIES SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
- Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS): Two-week program with a rich curriculum across three tracks: Innovations in Science & Technology, Politics of Law & Economics or Solving Global Challenges. A diverse program focusing on building a global community of future leaders. Application deadline: November (early action) and January (regular decision).
- Stanford Summer Humanities Institute: Three-week on-campus program for rising juniors and seniors. Students engage in intimate seminars led by Stanford humanities professors. Application deadline: February.
- Iowa Young Writer’s Studio: Two-week summer residential or six-week online program offering poetry, fiction, creative writing, playwriting or TV writing courses. Application deadline: February.
STATE SCHOLAR PROGRAMS
Several states recognize high-achieving students with state-wide summer scholar programs. Examples include the Pennsylvania Governor’s Schools (STEM training), the New Jersey Scholars Program (tuition-free, five-week enrichment) and California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) program.
