University of Michigan is a public research university founded in 1817. UMichigan is currently ranked #21 on the U.S. News & World Report’s list of national universities, #3 among U.S. public universities and #5 in Engineering schools. UMichigan is situated on an urban campus of 3,207 acres and has an undergraduate enrollment of 33,730. Most classes are small with a 15:1 student to teacher ratio.

Undergraduates at UMichigan can choose from 280 degree programs offered by the 14 College and Professional schools. Thanks to the trimester-based calendar students are able to sample a wide array of subjects and cultures. There is a strong global focus with more than 400 study abroad programs (on 6 continents) and classes in over 50 languages. There are over 1,700 student organizations and 29 varsity teams competing in the Big Ten conference.

Applying to University of Michigan

UMichigan offers applicants two rounds of admissions: Early Action (due November 1st) and Regular Decision (due February 1st). The School of Music, Theatre & Dance does not participate in the Early Action round but has a specific deadline of December 1st. The Early Action and Regular round are non-restrictive and non-binding, meaning students can apply to as many additional schools as they’d like. Ten of the schools accept first-year applications with Learning, Equity, and Problem Solving for the Public Good (LEAPS) the only first-year admitting major in Education as well as the Pharmaceutical Sciences program in the College of Pharmacy. During sophomore or junior year, the colleges of Architecture & Urban Planning, Business, Education, Information, and Pharmacy offer a guaranteed placement admissions program. 

UMichigan has a “test optional” approach where students can self-report test scores if they choose. Scores must be sent from the testing agency if the student is admitted and enrolled.
