What Makes This Different
Preparation shaped around your student and their goals.
The PSAT/NMSQT is the only test that qualifies students for the National Merit Scholarship Program, and only the score from junior year counts. Students who take it in grade 10 are practicing; the October sitting in grade 11 is the one National Merit uses.
It is also the closest preview of the SAT a student will get. The two tests share the same Reading and Writing and Math sections, the same question types, and the same adaptive format in the College Board’s Bluebook app. The work your student does for the PSAT/NMSQT carries straight into SAT preparation later in junior year.
Personalized from the Start
Every tutoring plan begins with an assessment of your student’s strengths, goals, and areas for growth.
Built for the Digital SAT
Students learn how the adaptive SAT works, developing the confidence, pacing, and strategies needed to perform at their best.
A Smarter Strategy
Our tutors help families make intentional decisions about preparation, testing, and retesting. For families also working with a Top Tier Admissions counselor, guidance is coordinated across both teams.
Common Questions
The answers, honestly.
Still have questions? A quick conversation is often the fastest way to find the clarity you need.
Is the PSAT worth preparing for?
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation uses a Selection Index, which doubles the Reading and Writing score and adds the Math score. Qualifying cutoffs are set state by state and change every year. Students who qualify are recognized as Commended Students or Semifinalists in the fall of senior year, and Semifinalists can then apply to advance to Finalist standing.
When should my student start preparing?
The ideal timeline depends on your student’s goals, testing schedule, and plans. Many students begin in the summer before junior year, which leaves time to build skills before the October test. Students with a strong 10th grade score sometimes start earlier. Your tutor will build a timeline around your student’s schedule and the school’s test date.
Is tutoring done in person or virtually?
All SAT tutoring is delivered virtually through one-on-one video or phone sessions, or a combination of both. Our tutors work with students across the country and around the world, scheduling sessions around school, activities, and other commitments.
How is the PSAT/NMSQT different from the SAT?
The format is nearly identical. Both are digital, adaptive, and about two hours and fifteen minutes long, with a Reading and Writing section and a Math section. The PSAT/NMSQT is scored on a slightly lower scale (320 to 1520, compared with 400 to 1600 on the SAT), and colleges do not see PSAT scores.
How does pricing work?
PSAT/NMSQT tutoring is offered in hour packages tailored to your student’s goals and timeline, with the hourly rate decreasing for larger packages. We will walk you through the options during your intake conversation.
