Common Questions

The answers, honestly.

Still have questions? A quick conversation is often the fastest way to find the clarity you need.

Should my student take the SAT or the ACT?

Both the SAT and the ACT are accepted by colleges, but they emphasize slightly different skills and testing styles. Many students benefit from trying a practice version of each before deciding where to focus. Our tutors can help you interpret those results and recommend the exam that’s the strongest fit for your student’s goals.

Should my student take the optional Science section?

It depends on your student’s academic interests, strengths, and the colleges they are considering. The Science section does not factor into the ACT Composite score, but students who take it receive separate Science and STEM scores. For some students, particularly those interested in STEM fields, that additional information may be useful. For others, the shorter core ACT may be the better fit. Your tutor can help you decide which approach best supports your student’s application.

Is the ACT digital or paper?

The ACT is offered in both paper and online formats. Unlike the SAT, it is linear rather than adaptive, so the test does not change based on a student’s performance. Format availability may vary by testing location and administration, and our tutors prepare students confidently for either version.

When should my student start preparing?

The right timeline depends on your student’s goals, testing schedule, and college plans. Many students begin preparing during sophomore or junior year, leaving time to build confidence and, if appropriate, improve their score through an additional test sitting. Your tutor can help you develop a preparation plan tailored to your student’s goals and timeline.

Is tutoring done in person or virtually?

All ACT tutoring is delivered virtually through one-on-one video or phone sessions, or a combination of both. This allows students to work with experienced tutors wherever they are located, while scheduling sessions around school, extracurriculars, and other commitments.

How does pricing work?

ACT tutoring is available as a standalone service or as part of our Private Counseling program. Standalone tutoring is offered in flexible hour packages tailored to your student’s goals, testing timeline, and level of support. We’ll help you determine the approach that’s the best fit.
