MBA Application Timeline

2025 has been a tumultuous year for U.S. business schools. Still recovering from the disruptions of COVID-19, schools now face campus protests, faculty and staff concerns about funding, and growing uncertainty around international student enrollment and retention. At the same time, the MBA landscape is shifting. Applicants are more ROI-conscious than ever and are increasingly exploring online MBAs, international programs, and accelerated formats like Kellogg’s one-year MBA.

What does this mean for you? Fewer international applicants may translate into less competition, making 2025 a surprisingly strong year to apply.

If you’re considering an MBA, now is the time to map out your admissions timeline. Most top MBA programs offer three application rounds—typically Round 1 in September/October, Round 2 in January, and Round 3 in March/April. Some schools even offer a fourth round.

  • Begin building a track record of community engagement and leadership outside of work.
    • As Tuck Admissions Director Amy Mitson noted in June 2025, “We look for sustained patterns of behavior… supporting and challenging others with kindness and courage.” Top MBA programs want evidence that you invest in others—get involved now so you can write about it later.
