Ideal for students who were deferred, denied, or still finalizing their Regular Decision materials.
With early results released in mid-December and regular decision deadlines continuing throughout January and into early February, this period becomes a crucial window to strengthen your application materials. To meaningfully improve your chances of acceptance, you need an advocate who can evaluate your materials through the eyes of an admissions officer. At Top Tier Admissions, we partner with your family to define a clear strategy and help you take swift, targeted action.
Our exclusive Deferral Boot Camp is built specifically for this moment – whether you were deferried, denied, or simply need to elevate your remaining applications. Each year, we accept a small cohort of students, enabling our experts to deliver high-touch, comprehensive guidance to your candidacy and prepare you for the next round. This selective model ensures we can devote our full attention, resources, and expertise to helping you make the most of this pivotal opportunity.
The good news? Even if you were deferred or denied, there is still a meaningful opportunity to strengthen your application for the regular round. With Top Tier Admissions in your corner, you can elevate your application materials and confidently present a more compelling, polished narrative to other top colleges in the larger applicant pool. While a deferral or denial can feel discouraging, it also offers a valuable chance to strategically reframe your application and position yourself for improved outcomes.
Take Strategic Action Now to Improve Your Admissions Outcomes
We will guide you through each of these critical steps:
Customized Analysis and In-Depth Review
- Our analysis of your application materials, transcript, test scores, and extracurricular impact will determine your next steps as well as the content of your deferral letter. We provide an action plan as the first step of this program so you have a clear timeline and understanding of your next steps. Colleges rarely offer feedback on an application, yet it is critical to get perspective from someone with insight into the admissions process to help with this evaluation. By working with an admissions expert who has evaluated applications firsthand, you can determine whether the school is legitimately waiting for your senior mid-year grades, or to see who else applies from your school or region, or whether it is a “courtesy deferral” meant to soften the blow of negative admissions news. In our experience, however, the most common reason for an early decision deferral is that a student with otherwise strong academic and extracurricular credentials did not leverage their application materials to present themselves as strategically as needed for competitive schools. In the holistic admissions process of highly selective colleges, every individual component of your application matters. But these pieces must also come together to tell a broader yet cohesive story about you as a person and scholar.
Action Plan & Comprehensive Application Overhaul
- We examine each part of your application package, including the finer details, to identify areas of strength and areas for improvement. We help students refine their essays to present a cohesive narrative that aligns with the school’s values and expectations, help you clarify your academic interests, and ensure that your supplemental essays highlight the right aspects of your background to be impactful.
Application Strategy for Early Decision II and Regular Rounds
- We’ll work with you to refine your EDII school and Regular Decision list with a strategic mix of reach, match, and likely schools. Our goal is to increase your chances of admission and find the best fit for your academic and personal goals. Deferral from your target school should be a wake-up call that something is not as strong as it should be in your application presentation. We will provide this clarity.
Essay Reconfiguration
- You now have the opportunity to reevaluate your application and fix any weaknesses before you submit your other applications, but only if you gain a clear-eyed assessment of what these weaknesses are. Our process goes beyond simple editing—it’s about taking a deep dive into your narrative and strategically enhancing every element. We will work closely with you to brainstorm and outline new essays as needed, helping you identify unique angles that bring out your strengths and align with the specific prompts of each college. If you already have drafts, we will review and revise them, offering targeted feedback to significantly strengthen your writing. Whether it’s refining your voice, improving your structure, or highlighting key experiences in a compelling way, we provide the guidance and tools necessary to elevate your essays to their highest potential.
Deferral Letter Guidance and Expert Edits
- At many schools, up to 15% of deferred students are ultimately accepted in the regular decision (RD) round. It’s key to take action quickly to maximize your chances. Start by watching our video on what goes into an impactful deferral letter (also known as a Letter of Continued Interest). This letter is your chance to remind the admissions committee why you’re a great fit for their school. We provide strategic insights, access to examples of successful letters, and personalized guidance as you craft a letter that not only follows specific school instructions but also helps you articulate your message with precision and impact. Our counselors will help you refine the tone and content, ensuring you stay positive, clear, and aligned with the school’s values. We will also help you take strategic action to show your continued enthusiasm for the school.
The TTA Difference
All of the students who have completed our Deferral Boot Camp have significantly strengthened their admissions prospects, including:
- A student deferred from Princeton in Single Choice Early Action who is now enrolled at Harvard
- A student initially deferred from Stanford who was later admitted in Regular Decision
- A student deferred from Notre Dame in Restrictive Early Action who went on to be accepted to NYU in ED2

Max’s Story
Max, a prospective pre-med student and Eagle Scout, contacted Top Tier Admissions the day after being deferred from Northwestern in Early Decision. Our Deferral Boot Camp allowed Max to better emphasize his strengths and take advantage of the Early Decision 2 application round. Max scored a 790/800 on the SAT, had 8 APs, and was a straight-A student in the top 6% of his large Texas class of 600+ students. However, our analysis of Max’s application identified many key places where his inexperience with this process led him to make poor application decisions, including careless typos and a cliché main essay topic. Implementing our suggestions and rewriting essays allowed Max to pursue his pre-med dreams at WashU, a top research institution.
