This is where the plan takes shape.
Grades 10 and 11 are the pivot point. We turn your student’s foundation into a focused strategy: course rigor, a testing roadmap, an emerging college list, and the early shape of their application.

Strategy Takes Over
From foundation to plan.
This is the stage where exploration becomes strategy. Here is how it unfolds.
Grade 10: Depth and Direction
Students begin pursuing opportunities with greater focus, interests become commitments, leadership starts to emerge, and academic plans become more intentional. By the end of the year, students have a clearer sense of their strengths, goals, and direction.
Grade 11: The Strategic Year
This is when the plan comes together. Test dates arrive, the college list takes real shape, the activity profile sharpens into a narrative, and early essay ideas begin to surface. Every decision is grounded in your student’s specific profile and goals. By senior year, students arrive with a strategy and a list, not a blank page.
What We Do Together
Strategic positioning, built around your student’s strengths.
Pillar 1
Course Rigor and Positioning
Your counselor helps your student choose the courses that signal genuine strength in their emerging direction. The goal is thoughtful rigor that strengthens their overall profile, not rigor for its own sake.
Pillar 2
Extracurricular Depth and Leadership
This is where involvement becomes a narrative. We help your student deepen the commitments that matter, step into leadership, and pursue the kind of initiative and impact that selective colleges notice.
Pillar 3
Testing Roadmap
Testing is most effective when it is planned, not rushed. Together, we build a clear timeline for PSAT, SAT/ACT, and AP preparation that fits your student’s schedule, and we connect them with our expert tutors so they can perform at their best.
Pillar 4
College List Development
The right college list takes shape over time. We help your family research and assemble a balanced, intentional set of colleges grounded in your student’s academic profile, interests, and goals, so the list that carries into senior year is both ambitious and realistic.
Pillar 5
Narrative and Positioning
We help your student understand how their strengths and interests fit together, and how to present them so admissions officers see a clear, compelling story.
Pillar 6
Early Essay Groundwork
In grade 11, we help students identify the experiences, ideas, and perspectives that could become compelling essay material, so they enter application season ready to write with purpose.
I just wanted to thank you for having such an inspiring influence on our kids throughout their high school journeys and I know the many things they have learned under your guidance will endure far beyond college. Many thanks!

Common Questions
The answers, honestly.
Still have questions? A quick conversation is often the fastest way to find the clarity you need.
Is this a good time to start?
Yes. These are two of the most valuable years in the entire process. There is still time to shape course selection, deepen the activity profile, and build a testing plan, rather than working around decisions already made. Your counselor will assess where your student stands and build a clear plan from there.
How does testing fit into this stage?
Testing is a central part of the work in grades 10 and 11. We build a well-paced timeline for the PSAT and for the SAT or ACT, help your student decide which test fits them best, and coordinate AP preparation. When focused prep makes sense, we connect your student with our expert tutors, and many programs include bundled tutoring hours.
How does the college list come together?
We build the list from the ground up, based on your student’s academic profile, interests, and goals. Grade 11 is when it takes real shape, balanced and intentional, so that by grade 12 your student is refining a strong list rather than starting one.
What happens when my student reaches senior year?
Our partnership continues seamlessly into application season. Students who have done the strategy work enter senior year with a list, a testing plan, and essay material already in motion, which makes the application process far more focused and far less stressful.
