Santa Clara University, a Jesuit institution in Santa Clara, California, received 12,150 Early Decision and Early Action applications for the Class of 2030 and admitted approximately 6,000 students, resulting in an early acceptance rate of about 50%, according to a university press release. This marks a 43% increase in early applications since the Class of 2026, continuing Santa Clara’s evolution from what admissions officials once described as a “best kept secret” into one of the most competitive destinations on the West Coast.
Santa Clara University Early Acceptance Rate
Early application volume has climbed steadily, from roughly 8,500 for the Class of 2026 to 12,150 this year, while the early acceptance rate has remained relatively stable near 50%. This consistency suggests the university has expanded its early admit pool to meet rising demand. Santa Clara’s continued test-optional policy through the 2025–2026 cycle, has likely played in role in driving the growth in applications.
The overall acceptance rate has shown greater fluctuation, dipping to 42% for the Class of 2027 before rebounding to 47% for the Class of 2028, reflecting deliberate enrollment management amid intensifying demand. Students in the enrolled Class of 2030 posted an average GPA of 3.87, consistent with recent years and indicative of sustained academic competitiveness despite the growing applicant pool.

Santa Clara’s rising profile is driven in part by its Silicon Valley location and strong industry connections. According to the university’s press release, this year’s admitted students demonstrated “a commitment to social justice, academic excellence, and service to others.” The $253.5 million Sobrato Campus for Discovery and Innovation, which opened in 2021, houses one of the nation’s largest STEM facilities. The Leavey School of Business ranks No. 1 regionally and No. 9 nationally for undergraduate entrepreneurship and more than 80% of students complete internships before graduation, many with major tech companies just minutes from campus.
TTA Top Tip: Santa Clara employs a holistic review that rates eight factors as “very important,” with one key distinction: volunteer work and work experience carry the same weight as academics. This approach reflects the university’s Jesuit emphasis on service and real-world engagement, and it’s more than just marketing language. Santa Clara seeks “citizens and leaders of competence, conscience, and compassion,” which means successful applications present a cohesive narrative showing how values are put into action through specific service projects, leadership roles, or community engagement. The University also considers demonstrated interest to be “important,” making campus visits and authentic engagement with admissions representatives especially valuable for borderline applicants.
