Just Released: University of Richmond’s Acceptance Rate

With almost 16,000 first-year applications, the Office of Undergraduate Admission surpassed its goal of 14,000 applications. The office also saw a surge in early applications, which were up 17% over last year.

“This is another record-breaking year for us,” said Rebecca Buffington, director of admission. “The overall applicant pool was so strong, with the highest average GPA in history and the highest number of students of color and first-generation college applicants.”

Buffington said that historically about 42% of the incoming class would be early decision, but this application cycle it’s at 48%. “The quality and quantity of early decision applicants was there to warrant the increase,” Buffington said. 

A staff of 16 review the applications with a focus on grades, classes taken, and involvement in school, community, and family along with how applicants align with the university mission. “We consider what students are looking for in a college and how that aligns with what we offer across the breadth of opportunities,” Buffington said.

The University made about 3,400 admission offers for about 825 seats in the first-year class.

“We look forward to many families visiting campus in the coming weeks — especially in April, and we know our community will welcome them,” Buffington said.
