No matter how prepared you may feel heading into the college planning process, it can quickly become overwhelming—filled with pressure to make the “right” choices, a constant stream of advice, comparisons, timelines, and tests. Beneath it all sits a quiet, persistent stress that affects both students and parents alike. In our conversations with families, we’ve seen that stress steadily rise, along with a growing need to restore calm, clarity, and joy to the process.
This is exactly why we created the College Planning Retreat.
From June 3rd through 5th, the historic White Hart Inn will provide a beautiful backdrop for conversations including:
- An expert panel on how to best support students during this formative, and transformative, season of life
- Candid insight into today’s admissions landscape, including how admissions officers thoughtfully and holistically evaluate applications
- Guided reflection on sense of self, and how a student’s values, interests, and experiences show up in both academic and non-academic spaces
- Building confidence through narrative storytelling, helping students articulate who they are and what matters to them with clarity and authenticity
…and more, with dedicated time for mindfulness and intention-setting woven throughout. Families will leave with practical insights into navigating the college planning process in a healthy, balanced way.
Why The College Planning Retreat?
There are many ways to approach the college planning and application process, and many definitions of what a “top-tier” college looks like. At Top Tier Admissions, we’ve long recognized that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to college counseling, and we see this firsthand through how families engage with our many counseling options: whether that is through our signature Application Boot Camp® program; our longer-term, relationship-driven private counseling; or by way of our intentional, focused webinars.
We’ve identified a noticeable need in this space for an approach that brings reflection and a sense of calm to the journey, always centering the student. In a first-of-its-kind program, this retreat is a chance to pause, step back from the noise, and approach college planning in a way that feels more grounded, thoughtful, and human. It’s designed to help families replace anxiety with clarity, and uncertainty with confidence—without losing sight of student wellbeing along the way.
Over the years, we’ve seen how easily the college process can become reactive. Families feel rushed. Students feel pressure to perform. Decisions are often driven by fear—fear of falling behind, fear of missing out, fear of making a mistake—rather than by values and fit. But to know what you’re looking for in your college experience, you first have to reflect on who you are and who you want to become. This is where the College Planning Retreat offers something fundamentally different.
How Will We Achieve This?
At the heart of the retreat are panels with former admissions officers, who bring transparent, behind-the-scenes insight into the admissions process. These conversations “pull back the curtain” by replacing myths and guesswork with clarity and perspective, helping families focus their energy where it will have the greatest impact.
Equally important are guided discussions centered on how parents and caregivers can best support students emotionally and mentally through this journey. College planning isn’t just about applications; it’s about growth, resilience, and maintaining a healthy sense of balance during this critical formative (and transformative) stage of life.
The College Planning Retreat combines intentional space for reflection alongside actionable tools for approaching the college planning process with purpose. Instead of racing ahead, we slow things down. We create space for reflection, learning, and honest conversation—about what colleges value, how decisions are really made, and how to approach it all through the lens of self-care.
Why This Location?
The setting of the College Planning Retreat matters—and it’s no accident that we chose the historic White Hart Inn. We wanted a place that immediately helps families exhale. A setting that invites calm, focus, and presence, far from the usual swirl of schedules, notifications, and everyday distractions that so often define this process.
When families step into a space designed for mindfulness and wellness, something shifts. Conversations slow down. Reflection feels easier. There’s room to connect—both with one another and with the bigger questions at the heart of college planning. The environment isn’t just a backdrop to the retreat; it’s part of the experience itself, and a key reason it feels so different from anything families have done before.
What We Hope Families Gain
By the end of the College Planning Retreat, our goal is for families to leave feeling:
- Clearer about how the admissions process works and what colleges truly prioritize
- More confident in their ability to make thoughtful, values-aligned decisions
- Better equipped to support students in ways that reduce stress rather than add to it
- More grounded in the understanding that well-being and success are not competing goals
We also hope families walk away with a renewed sense of trust—in themselves, in their students, and in the idea that there is no single “right” path to college. Thoughtful planning, informed guidance, and emotional well-being can coexist.
Because this retreat is designed to be highly personal, space is limited to preserve this experience.
If you’re seeking a more intentional, supportive, and empowering way to approach college planning, we hope you’ll consider joining us.
