Ivy League and MIT – Early Action and Early Decision Acceptance Rates

Brown University
Brown received 5,048 Early Decision applications for the Class of 2029 and accepted 906 applicants for an acceptance rate of 17.95 percent. Last year, Brown received 6,244 Early Decision applications for the Class of 2028 and accepted 898 applicants. In previous years, Brown received 6,770 Early Decision applications for the Class of 2027 and accepted 879 applicants, and for the class of 2026, Brown accepted 896 students out of 6,146 early applications received. 

Columbia University
Columbia reported 5,872 early applications for the Class of 2029 compared to 6,008 applications for the Class of 2028. Last year, based on our estimated admission of 750 students, the rate of admission should have been in the 12 percent range. The school has not yet released its official numbers for 2028. For the Class of 2027, according to its released Common Data Set, Columbia admitted 840 students out of 5,733 applications, a number substantially higher than previously reported. For the Class of 2026, again according to its released Common Data Set, Columbia admitted 786 students out of 6,299 applications.

Cornell University
Cornell has decided not to disclose its admissions’ numbers until the end of the yearly cycle. In previous years, Cornell received 9,973 Early Decision applications for the Class of 2028 and accepted 1,661 applicants. For the Class of 2027, Cornell received 9,553 Early Decision applications and accepted 1,670 applications.  

Dartmouth College
Dartmouth reported 3,550 Early Decision applications for the Class of 2029 but did not report the number of accepted applications. Last year, the school reported 3,550 Early Decision applications for the Class of 2028 and accepted 606 students for an admission rate of 17.07 percent. For the Class of 2027, the university received 3,009 Early Decision applications and accepted 578 students for an admission rate of 19.21 percent.

Harvard University
Harvard will not disclose its admissions’ numbers until the end of the yearly cycle.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology received 12,053 Early Action applications to the Class of 2029 and accepted 721 students for an acceptance rate of 5.98 percent. This represents a decrease from the 12,563 Early Action applications received for the Class of 2028 when the school accepted 661 students for an acceptance rate of 5.26 percent. In prior years, MIT accepted 685 students to the Class of 2027 for an acceptance rate of 5.74 percent and 697 students to the Class of 2026 for an acceptance rate of 4.72 percent.

University of Pennsylvania
Penn announced about 9,500 Early Decision applications for the Class of 2029 and about 8,500 Early Decision applications for the Class of 2028, but has not reported acceptance rates for the past two years. Penn received 8,100 Early Decision applications for the Class of 2027 and admitted 1,200 students for a 14.8 percent admit rate. For the Class of 2026, Penn received 7,794 Early Decision applications and admitted 1,210 students for a 15.52 percent admit rate.

Princeton University
Princeton will not disclose its admissions’ numbers until the end of the yearly cycle.

Yale University
Yale offered admission to 728 Early Action applicants for the Class of 2029, up from 709 applicants for its Class of 2028. Yale also reported a decrease in applications from 7,856 to 6,729 for these two cycles, as well as an increase in acceptance rates from 9.02 to 10.82 percent.

More Selective Schools – Early Action and Early Decision

Duke reported that 6,627 students applied under its Early Decision program and admitted 849 students to the Class of 2029. Last year, Duke reported that 6,240 students applied under its Early Decision program and admitted 806 to the Class of 2028. For the Class of 2027, 4,855 students applied under its Early Decision program and admitted 800 students.   

Johns Hopkins admitted 551 applicants in the early round to their Class of 2029. Last year, the university accepted 550 students in the Early Decision I cycle and 809 over both ED cycles. For the Class of 2027, Duke accepted 853 of the 6,266 students who applied in their Early Decision cycle.

Notre Dame From a pool of 12,917 applications, Notre Dame accepted 1,669 Early Action applicants to the Class of 2029, resulting in a 13 percent acceptance rate. Last year, Notre Dame admitted 1,724 Early Action applicants to their Class of 2028 from a pool of 11,498 students, reflecting a 14.99 percent acceptance rate. For the Class of 2027, the school admitted 1,701 Early Action applicants from a pool of 11,163 students, reflecting a 15.24 percent acceptance rate.
