Review of the Ivy League & MIT Class of 2028 — Entering Fall 2024

The University offered admission to 5.16 percent of its applicants to the Class of 2028, down from last year’s acceptance rate of 5.23 percent for the Class of 2027. Out of the 48,881 students who applied 2,521 students were admitted. The 1,623 students accepted through the regular decision process joined the 898 students admitted in December. The rate of admission for the ED round stood at 14.38 percent.  

Last year, Brown offered admission to 5.23 percent of its applicants to the Class of 2027 when 2,686 students were admitted from a pool of 51,316 students. For the Class of 2026, 2,562 students were accepted from a pool of 50,649 applicants. 

For the Class of 2028, Columbia accepted 2,319 students from 60,248 applications. The acceptance rate of 3.85 percent is slightly down from last year’s 4.00 percent when Columbia admitted 2,285 applicants from 57,126 applications. For this admissions’ cycle, Columbia received 6,009 early decision applications and accepted 750 students for an admission rate of 12.48 percent. 

The Class of 2027 acceptance rate of 4.00 percent was slightly above the previous year of 3.73 percent when Columbia admitted 2,253 applicants from 60,377 applications to the Class of 2026.

Cornell admitted 5,516 applicants from a pool of 65,612 applicants to the Class of 2028 for an overall acceptance rate of 8.41 percent. Cornell received 67,846 applications for admission to the Class of 2027 and admitted 5,358 students for an overall acceptance rate of 7.90 percent and the previous year, 5,168 students out of 71,164 applicants were admitted to the Class of 2026 for an acceptance rate of 7.26 percent.

Dartmouth College offered admission to 1,685 students for the Class of 2028 for an overall acceptance rate of 5.32 percent, down from last year’s 6.23 percent. The Class of 2028 saw a larger pool of applicants (31,657) after last year’s 28,841. The total number of accepted students to the Class of 2028 includes the 606 admitted through the early decision process in December. 

Last year Dartmouth College extended offers of admission to 1,797 applicants to its Class of 2027. 

Harvard accepted 3.59 percent of applicants to its Class of 2028. This year, Harvard received a total of 54,008 applications compared to 56,937 for the Class of 2027. With 1,937 admitted students to the Class of 2028, the rate of admission increased to 3.59 percent from 3.45 percent for the combined SCEA and regular decision. 

Harvard’s SCEA admit rate of 8.74 percent for the early round is substantially higher than the regular decision acceptance rate of 2.70 percent. In the early round, Harvard University received 7,921 applications and accepted 692 students.

In previous years, Harvard received a total of 56,937 applications to the Class of 2027 and 61,221 to the Class of 2026. 

This year, 65,235 students applied to Penn’s Class of 2028 in the early and regular rounds. Penn announced that about 8,500 students applied through the early decision round but did not disclose admissions’ rates.

Last year, 59,465 students applied to Penn’s Class of 2027 and 3,489 were admitted for an overall acceptance rate of 5.87 percent. In the previous year, 3,549 students out of 54,588 were admitted to the Class of 2026, leading to an overall acceptance rate of 6.50 percent.

Princeton University admitted 1,868 applicants out of 40,468 applications to the Class of 2028 for an overall acceptance rate of 4.62 percent. Last year, Princeton offered admission to 1,782 students, or 4.50 percent of the 39,644 applicants to the Class of 2027

According to its released Common Data Set, Princeton offered admission to 2,167 students, or 5.70 percent of the 38,019 applicants to the Class of 2026. 

Yale’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions accepted 2,146 students or 3.73 percent of the 57,465 students who applied to the Class of 2028. This represents a decrease from last year’s rate of 4.50 percent. The SCEA round accounted for 709 acceptances out of a pool of 7,856 applications. 

Last year Yale accepted 2,353 students or 4.50 percent of the 52,303 students who applied to the Class of 2027. The SCEA round accounted for 776 acceptances out of a pool of 7,744 applications. 

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology admitted 1,275 students out of 28,232 applicants to the Class of 2028 for an acceptance rate of 4.52 percent. In its early round, MIT admitted 685 students out of 11,924 applications, yielding 5.74 percent which is the lowest rate of acceptance in an early round among its peer group composed of the Ivy League and Stanford.

Last year, for the Class of 2027 the school admitted 1,259 students out of 26,914 applicants for an acceptance rate of 4.68 percent. In its early round, MIT admitted 687 students out of 11,924 applications. In the previous year, for the Class of 2026, MIT admitted 1,337 students out of a record 33,976 applicants for an acceptance rate of 3.94 percent.
