Class of 2029: Regular Decision Acceptance Rate
More than 26,841 students applied for admission this year, the second-highest total in the university’s history, with 18,546 applying through Regular Decision. Of those applicants, only 2,283 students (12.3 percent) were accepted, making the Regular Decision pool as selective as that of institutions such as the University of Southern California (12.5 percent).
Sustained Selectivity for the Georgetown University Class of 2028
Of the overall applicants, 15,704 applied to Georgetown College, and 1,870 were accepted (12 percent), the lowest among the four schools. The Walsh School of Foreign service received 3,917 applications and admitted 581 (15 percent). The McDonough School of Business admitted 517 applicants out of 4,554 (11 percent). The School of Health received 1,484 applications and admitted 182 (12 percent). The School of Nursing received 511 applications and admitted 76 (15 percent).
Georgetown required SAT or ACT scores for all students applying this year. The SAT Verbal middle 50 percent range was 730 to 770, the SAT Math middle 50 percent range was 730 to 790 and the ACT middle 50 percent range was 32 to 35.
Struggle with Socio-Economic Diversity
Although Georgetown emphasized their growing number of applicants from minority groups for the Class of 2028 (9 percent black applicants, 12 percent Latinx applicants, 26 percent Asian-American applicants, 8 percent international applicants and 1 percent Native American applicants), they continue to struggle with socio-economic diversity. Most applications came from California, New York, New Jersey and Maryland. Georgetown ranks 12th in income inequality, according to a 2017 New York Times report of 38 schools. This report noted that “the median family income of a student from Georgetown is $229,100, and 74% come from the top 20 percent.” According to The Hoya, the university’s low endowment presents an obstacle to providing competitive financial aid packages to students from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
